Ghana is one of the top ten contributors of peacekeeping troops in the world, according to the Deputy Defence Minister.

Ghana, according to Amankwa-Manu, is an important player in maintaining global peace.

Ghana is among the top ten countries with the most female peacekeepers, according to Dep Min.

 

Ghana honors the United Nations Peacekeepers' International Day.

 

Ghana is one of the top ten soldier donors to United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations throughout the world, according to Deputy Minister of Defense Kofi Amankwa-Manu.

 

Ghana, he claims, achieved this achievement with its recent soldier deployment to Sudan to assist keep the peace.

 

Amankwa-Manu said the achievement demonstrates Ghana's commitment to promoting international peace. He was speaking at a ceremony commemorating the International Day of the United Nations Peace Keepers.

"Ghana continues to play an important role in UN peacekeeping missions." To demonstrate our commitment to international peace, Ghana recently sent a mechanised infantry force of 570 troops and a level two hospital force of 57 troops to the UN's interim stabilization force... in Sudan.

 

"In addition to the troops we currently have in Lebanon, Southern Sudan, and Mali, this recent deployment places Ghana among the top 10 troop-contributing countries in the globe," he said.

 

"As a top ten troop-contributing country, Ghana has backed the Secretary-steps General's for peacekeeping initiative and shared commitment declaration," he added. Ghana has also recognized the UN's uniform capability gap and has promised seven operational units to the UN's maintaining capability readiness system in an effort to close the gap."

 

Ghana was also among the top ten countries in the world with female participation in peacekeeping missions, according to the deputy defense minister.

 

The celebration came to a close with the United Nations Coordinator Charles Abani and the Deputy Minister of Defence laying wreaths and raising the flag.
