Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne dismisses the Nations League as 'unimportant.'Kevin De Bruyne dismisses the Nations League as "unimportant," lamenting the absence of player welfare, stating that "we have a little more than three weeks of holiday every year."Kevin De Bruyne has slammed the UEFA Nations League, calling it "unimportant" and claiming that players require more time off in the off-season.
After a long and exhausting season, De Bruyne's 2021-22 season will be prolonged into June, with Belgium's qualification campaign for the 2022-23 finals beginning in Italy. From June 3, Belgium, which is in Group A4 with Holland, Poland, and Wales, will play four games in 11 days.
Due to his tight schedule, De Bruyne won't be able to take a break from football until June 15 at the earliest, before reporting for pre-season duties with Manchester City in July.
And it's all something De Bruyne could do without, as he slammed the Nations League for its insignificance in the football calendar.
'The Nations League is unimportant to me.' We have to play those games, but it's more of a warm-up,' the 30-year-old explained.
'It's been a difficult season for everyone.' We do what we need to do as soon as we go on the field. We're not going to say anything about it. We can talk about vacations and rest as players, but we have no say in the matter.
'We do what we have to do, and that's all there is to it.' Every 12 months, we get a little more than three weeks off.'Outsiders have no idea how a player feels at the end of a season.' It doesn't have to be; in the end, nothing will alter. It's also pointless to say anything about it. 'Nothing is going to change anyway.'
De Bruyne has now scored 20 goals in 49 outings for club and country this season.
He was named Premier League Player of the Season for his achievements with City, as he led them to the title.
