In a reported £26 million ($32 million) agreement, Aston Villa has agreed to buy Brazilian defender Diego Carlos from Sevilla.
Before agreeing to personal terms with the Premier League team, Carlos will go to England for a physical.
Sevilla won the Europa League in 2020 thanks to the 29-year-old centre-136 back's appearances.
During the January transfer window, he was in negotiations with Newcastle, but no agreement could be reached.
"Aston Villa can confirm that the club has reached an agreement with Sevilla FC for the sale of Diego Carlos for an unknown amount," according to a statement released by the club on Thursday.
"In the next hours, the footballer will go to England to complete a physical and finalise personal terms."
Carlos joined Sevilla in 2019 from Nantes in France, where he was a member of the Brazilian Olympic team that won gold in Tokyo in 2020.
"Sevilla FC would like to thank the player for his efforts over the years in Seville and wishes him the best of luck in his new endeavour," the La Liga club said in a statement.
Carlos will be the latest addition for Villa boss Steven Gerrard since the domestic season finished last Sunday.
Boubacar Kamara, a French midfielder, has already agreed to join Villa on a five-year agreement once his contract with Marseille ends at the end of the season.
After rising through Marseille's junior systems, the 22-year-old made 170 appearances for the club, scoring four goals in the process.
"I am overjoyed that we have been able to sign one of Europe's most promising young players," Gerrard, whose side finished 14th in the Premier League, said.
"We have a very clear goal to strengthen our squad, and Bouba is a big part of it."
Following Philippe Coutinho's successful loan from Barcelona in January, Gerrard just signed him on a permanent basis.
