Man United are aiming to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag exploring a move for an Ajax player.

Jurrien Timber celebrates with Antony of Ajax.

In the summer transfer window, Manchester United may have to learn to compromise. Erik ten Hag wants to rebuild his new team, but he doesn't have the resources to solve all of the issues.

Ralf Rangnick suggested as many as ten new players might be needed this summer before leaving the club, while club sources insist the rebuild is not as bad as the former would-be consultant suggested.

In reality, United will most likely need five or six new players in the off-season to improve their roster while also replacing those who will depart this summer. It will, however, be easier said than done.

United has often struggled with a one-at-a-time method, and they must also overcome the hurdle of selling players before reinvesting in their squad.

It means United may only bring in three or four new players by the end of the summer, leaving certain sections of the pitch ignored despite the need for reinvestment.

As a result, United may attempt to be inventive in the summer window, and they have one contender in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber who might answer both of the team's problems.

Ten Hag is said to have pushed Timber in recent recruitment meetings and is a strong fan of his former teammate from their time in Amsterdam.

The 20-year-old is still developing as a player, but he has a bright future ahead of him and plenty of untapped potential. If United are to be successful in their rebuilding, he has the right kind of character.

Timber not only has the proper personality attributes to succeed at Old Trafford, but he also has adaptability, which means he might assist tackle two problems at once.

In a perfect world, United would recruit a new center-back and a new right-back this summer, but with the priority of bringing in at least one midfielder and at least one attacker, two defensive reinforcements may have to be sacrificed.

It implies that, rather than having a desire for both, United might conclude the summer with either a central defender or a full-back, though Timber could well be the best option.

Under Ten Hag's tutelage, the Dutch defender typically plays at centre-back, but he has also played on the right side of defense.

Jurrien Timber has made an immediate impact for Ajax.

He made 38 appearances in the center role this season and another five out wide, giving him a total of 64 matches for Ajax at centre-back and 14 at right-back since his debut in March 2020 against SC Heerenveen.

Timber will require regular playing time at centre-back in the long run if he is to realize his full potential, but arriving to Old Trafford as a back-up central defender who can also play full-back could be the ideal way for him to adjust to his new league before being thrown in at the deep end.

While United fans may be clamoring for new first-teamers this summer, signing Timber, a young, potential youngster with a bright future, may be the best option.
