MARCUS RASHFORD has had a difficult season at Manchester United, prompting questions over the England forward's future at the club.
Marcus Rashford being escorted out the Manchester United exit door sounds unthinkable. The forward, who was once the crown gem of the Red Devils' academy, has had a dismal season and is allegedly considering his own future at the club.
Rashford's start to the season was hampered by a long-standing shoulder ailment, and the 24-year-old struck a dejected figure on the field as his poor form saw him relegated to the bench on multiple occasions.Under Ralf Rangnick, United had a poor finish to the season, but the interim manager seemed to never see Rashford as a solution, instead opting for the previously untested Anthony Elanga.
Rashford's absence from the starting eleven in Manchester City's crushing derby defeat heightened these fears, with Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba chosen in attack. Gareth Southgate has cautioned the attacker, as well as teammate Jadon Sancho, that time is running out to fight their way back into the England squad before the World Cup later this year.
With a European brace against FC Midtjylland as a teenager, Rashford exploded onto the scene with his boyhood club, and the sky looked to be the limit.Fast forward six years, and the forward is now facing an uncertain summer, with only one year remaining on his contract.

United have the option to extend Rashford's contract for another year, but there has been talk that the player himself may want to go. Erik ten Hag is in charge of a major rebuilding project at Old Trafford, with a budget of more than £100 million set aside to revamp the club's faltering team.
Rashford, on the other hand, hasn't had much luck with the Red Devils in the past. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Louis van Gaal, the attacker adapted and succeeded in a variety of situations, but his development stalled under Jose Mourinho.

"There are loads of different aspects – but my time under Jose was a massive learning period for me and I feel like I understood football in a different way than what I understood football before that," Rashford told Sky Sports in February last year, reflecting on his time under the tutelage of the 'Special One." I learnt how to win in a variety of ways.
"It was a difficult period in my career, but those are the moments that make or break you. His teaching technique wasn't perfect for me, but it did help me progress as a player and as a person."
Rashford's challenges this season have outstripped those he faced under Mourinho, and his place for both United and England is in jeopardy. If the forward is to become a significant part of ten Hag's long-term rebuild, he will have to apply these lessons this time around.
