Why Biochemistry is a fascinating Science.
Biochemistry basically is the branch of science that explores the chemical processes within and related to living organisms. It is a laboratory based science that brings together biology and chemistry. By using chemical knowledge and biotechniques, biochemists can understand and solve biological and biochemical problems.
Courses in Biochemistry
Biochemistry entails the study of scientific disciplines such as General Chemistry(Organic and Inorganic Chemistry), Biophysics, Protein Structure, Microbiology, Food Biochemistry, Enzymology, Analytical Biochemistry, Plant Biochemistry,Clinical Biochemistry,Carbanions,General Biochemistry,Biocomputing and Bioinformatics etc.
To throw more light, Biochemistry focuses on processes happening at a molecular level. It focuses on what is happening inside our cells, studying components like proteins, lipids and organelles. It also looks at how cells communicate with each other, for example during growth or fighting illness. Biochemists need to understand how the structure of a molecule relates to its function, allowing them to predict how molecules will interact.
Interestingly, Biochemistry forms the basis of most of the science related programs such as Human Biology(Medicine), Pharmacy, Optometry, Biomedical Science, Chemistry etc.
The above mentioned programs can’t do away with knowledge from this branch of science since most of their mechanisms require the knowledge of biochemistry.
To add to the above, studying biochemistry at the degree level, gives you an opportunity to divert to other fields of science when one wants to do his or her masters or PHD.
Biochemistry being the backbone of many branch of science makes it very easy to explore other fields of science.
What do Biochemists Do?
At this moment, I know you would be wondering what one can do with biochemistry.
There are 1001 things u can do with biochemistry.
As a biochemist, you are eligible to work in any pharmaceutical industries, hospitals specifically the laboratories, food industries, drug development Companies, Herbal medicine agencies, Forensic crime research, Universities and being a full time/part time entrepreneur just to mention a few.
Lastly Because of its breadth, biochemistry is very important and advances in this field of science over the past 100 years have been staggering. It’s a very exciting time to be part of this fascinating area of study.
Hug a biochemist the next time you meet one.
They are whole package .
