Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot intends to stay with the club next season because he is regarded as an important player by manager Erik ten Hag, according to Gianluca Di Marzio. The Portugal international began the previous season as a backup option for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but his circumstances altered once manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired.

Under interim head coach Ralf Rangnick, he became a fixture in the starting lineup at the start of this season and managed to hold his spot for the majority of the season.

According to a recent source, manager Ten Hag intends to work with him next season, and Wan-Bissaka might be on his way out if the club decides to buy a new right-back. Di Marzio has stated repeatedly that Dalot has no intention of leaving United. Ten Hag regards the former Porto graduate as 'essential.'

In recent months, Roma, Fiorentina, and previous club AC Milan have all been linked with a move for Dalot, but he does not see himself returning to the Italian top flight at the moment

Last summer, there was a lot of conjecture about Dalot's future. He was expected to seek a new challenge elsewhere if the Red Devils signed a new right-back.

But this was not the case. He began the season as Wan-backup, Bissaka's but finished the season as the undisputed right-back under Rangnick.

When the two were compared defensively, they had more than two tackles per league game. When it came to attacking play, though, Dalot clearly had the upper hand versus Wan-Bissaka.

He was more willing to make overlapping runs and attempted early crosses that were unsuccessful. There were also more advanced passes. He hit three times as many long balls as Wan-Bissaka.

This appears to have improved his career chances under Ten Hag, although the Dutch tactician may still desire a tough competitor who can contribute regularly to the club's goals next season.

Dalot showed promise in various games last season, but he failed to score or assist. According to recent rumors, the club is interested in signing Nordi Mukiele from RB Leipzig.
