Real Madrid have improved their bid for Aurelién Tchouaméni. Real Madrid are on the verge of signing AS Monaco defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are close to completing a deal for Chelsea, liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain target and AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni. The Spanish giants have reportedly submitted an offer of €80 million, plus add-ons, with the hopes that it could be enough for Monaco to part ways with the player.
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have dropped out of the battle to sign Tchouameni, with the newly-crowned European champions close to agreeing a €100 million (£85 million) deal with Monaco, including incentives.
Since star striker Kylian Mbappe turned them down and signed a new contract with PSG, Madrid has been desperate to recruit the France international defensive midfielder.
Tchouameni had another excellent season in Ligue 1, helping Monaco finish third for the second year in a row. During the 2021/22 season, the defensive midfielder made 50 appearances and produced 5 goals and 3 assists across all competitions.
The France international is highly sought after because of his work rate and ability to drive the ball up the pitch. Among midfielders, he is in the 99th percentile for interceptions, the 87th percentile for progressive passes, and the 85th percentile for attempted passes.
At only 22 years old, it's easy to see why a player like Tchouameni has been so sought after by Europe's elite teams. Despite his youth, he has demonstrated the ability to compete at a high level, collecting eight caps for a France side that is not short on skilled midfielders.
The La Liga champions are coming off their 14th European Cup success, a 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League final. Real Madrid's midfield in that finally had a 36-year-old Luka Modric, who was joined by two additional players over the age of 30 in Casemiro (30) and Toni Kroos (32). While they are still incredibly talented players, most of their football careers are likely over. Real, with Camavinga and maybe Tchouameni, would appear to be set in the center of the park should any of their seasoned trio hang up their boots or go on to greener pastures.
