Kk was born in Delhi to Malayali parents C. S. Menon and Kunnath Kanakavalli, (Krishnakumar Kunnath) which is Kk in full was brought up and cared for in New Delhi. KK sang over 3,500 jingles before breaking into Bollywood. He was a male graduate of Delhi's Mount St Mary's School and graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. Kk sang and appeared in the song "Josh of India" for the support of the Indian Cricket Team during Cricket World Cup of the year 1999 which introduced him to more people who did not know him. Which also featured members of the Indian Cricket Team.
KK married his beautiful wife Jyothy in the year 1991. His son Nakul Krishna Kunnath also sang a song "Masti" from his album Humsafar with him. KK not only has a son, he also has a daughter named Tamara Kunnath.
KK began his musical and acting career by performing for advertisement jingles, and made his film debut with an A.R. Rahman soundtrack. In the year of 1999, Kk launched his first debut album titled Pal. The two songs "Pal" and "Yaaron" from the album Pal became one of the most popular songs of that season and are commonly used in school farewells. His other popular songs included "Tadap Tadap" from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam of the year (1999), the Tamil song "Apadi Podu", "Dola Re Dola" from Devdas sung in (2002), "Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai" from Woh Lamhe... sung in (2006), "Aankhon Mein Teri" from Om Shanti Om (2007), "Khuda Jane" from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), "Piya Aaye Na" from Aashiqui 2 sung in (2013), "Mat Aazma Re" from Murder 3 sung in (2013), "India Wale" from Happy New Year sung in (2014) and "Tu Jo Mila" from Bajrangi Bhaijaan sung (2015), and so many others. In his career, he has received six Filmfare Awards
KK performed at the Gurudas College Fest at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata on 31 May 2022. During the performance, he complained of feeling unwell soon after his performance on the way back to his hotel where he suffered a cardiac arrest. All the efforts made to revive him at the hotel were unsuccessful. He was then rushed to a hospital in Kolkata where he was sadly declared dead on arrival. His age was 53 years old at the time of his death.
