Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, JGC's Executive Chairman, asked the lifeguards to do all possible to make water transportation safer in the country.

He stated that his company will give the Ghana Navy with three speed boats to assist the security agency in its maritime activities.

He went on to say that the project was important because of the difficulties with transportation on the Volta Lake and other bodies of water in the country.

"There are issues with transportation on the Volta Lake, including a shortage of life jackets for commuters, overcrowding on boats, and a lack of safety instruction on the lake," he lamented.

The project, he says, aims to employ kids from villages near the Volta Lake and provide them with basic skills in the process.  According to him, the project aims to engage kids from villages near the Volta Lake and train them in aquatic survival and rescue operations so that commuters on the lake are safe.

"It also helps to keep the different landing spots clean, give safety instruction to both boat operators and commuters, and supply life jackets to commuters to keep them safe on the lake," he said.

The initiative, according to Dr. Siaw Agyepong, involves 40 municipal district assemblies (MDAs).

Rear Admiral Isaah Yakubu, the Chief of Naval Staff, praised Dr. Siaw Agyepong for his vow to provide the military new speed boats.  He urged the lifeguards to always put the country's interests first when doing their responsibilities.

Earlier, in a welcoming message, Commodore Emmanuel Ayensu Kwafo, Flight Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), lauded the leadership of the Leadership Training School and praised the cadets for their perseverance.

According to him, the participants received training in firefighting techniques, confidence jumps and survival at sea, as well as endurance on water to rescue lives and property.

According to him, the goal of this training is to assist prevent mishaps on the Volta Lake and other bodies of water.  Ecozoil is not the first company to take on such a project. It happened about 10-11 years ago," he said, adding that the Ghana Navy had also assisted in the rescue of life in Ghana's waterways.
