470 LIFEGUARDS PASS OUT TO SAVE LIVES ON THE VOLTA LAKE

At the Eastern Naval Base in Tema New Town in the Greater Accra Region, a total of 470 trained lifeguards have graduated.

 

 

 

 

 

The trained lifeguards, who will be recruited from nine areas around Ghana and include both males and females, will be deployed to save lives on Ghana's waterways.

The Volta Lake Transport Safety Project (VLTSP), a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Ministry of Transport and Ecozoil, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, made the Basic Water Safety and Life Guard Training Course feasible (JGC).

 

 

 

The course was divided into two sections, the first of which began on February 11th and ran for six weeks.  While commending the leadership of the Leadership Training School, the Flight Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Commodore Emmanuel Ayensu Kwafo, lauded the trainees for their perseverance in a welcoming address.

According to him, the trainees were taught firefighting methods, confidence jumps and survival at sea, as well as water endurance to rescue lives and property.

 

 

 

According to him, the goal of this training is to assist prevent mishaps on the Volta Lake and other bodies of water.  "This is not the first time Ecozoil has undertaken a project of this nature. It happened about 10-11 years ago," he said, adding that the Ghana Navy had also assisted in the rescue of life in Ghana's waterways.

 

Prosper Kofi Abochie, a lifeguard operator, was named the Overall Best Trainee and awarded a Special Certificate of Commendation.

 

 

 

Augustina Agyemang was named Best Female Trainee in the Second Batch, Nehard Mumuni was named Best Make in the Third Batch, Ruth Astwei Adjetey was named Best Female Trainee in the Third Batch, Abubakar Fuseini was named Best Male in the Fourth Batch, and Benedicta Eklu was named Best Female in the Fourth Batch.

The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiama, who was the Guest of Honour at the colorful passing out event, congratulated the trainees and thanked them for their hard work.
