KEVIN DE BRUYNE, A TWO-TIME WINNER, IS ONCE AGAIN ON THE SHORTLIST FOR THE PFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR AW

Kevin De Bruyne, a two-time winner, is once again on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award.

 

After being shortlisted for the 2022 Professional Footballers' Association men's player of the year award, Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne might be on his way to a hat-trick of medals.

 

The Belgium international has played a key role in City's Premier League title defense this season and has been nominated for the award, which is decided by his peers, after winning it the previous two years.He is joined on the list by Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Virgil Van Dijk of Liverpool, Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United, and Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, with Kane's team-mate Son Heung-min missing out despite sharing the Golden Boot with Salah.

Phil Foden, a teammate of De Bruyne's at City, is on an all-English shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award.

 

Foden will be looking to keep his crown from the previous season. Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe, Chelsea's Crystal Palace loanee Conor Gallagher, Chelsea full-back Reece James, and Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey are among the other nominees this season.Women's categories are similarly heavily populated by city dwellers. Lauren Hemp, the winner of the young player award last season, has been nominated for both the senior and young player awards.Alex Greenwood, a teammate, is also on the primary women's player shortlist, but they'll be up against Chelsea's Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder, who helped their team win the domestic double.

 

The major player of the year shortlist is completed by Arsenal's Dutch attacker Vivianne Miedema and her Gunners teammate Kim Little.

 

Chelsea forward Lauren James, Arsenal's Norwegian star Frida Maanum, Tottenham striker Jessica Naz, Manchester United forward Ella Toone, and Brighton defender Maya Le Tissier are among the young player nominees this season. At a virtual ceremony on June 9, the winners of these awards, as well as the teams of the season for the Premier League, Women's Super League, Championship, League One, and League Two, as well as the winners of the men's and women's lifetime achievement honors, will be announced.
