Following Liverpool's 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris on Saturday evening, more than a dozen players might leave this summer.
It's difficult to envisage Jurgen Klopp's fantastic Liverpool team improving right now.
In 2021-22, the Reds competed for all four major trophies, winning the FA Cup and EFL Cup and reaching the Champions League final, where they were defeated 1-0 by Real Madrid. In the Premier League championship campaign, they ended just a point behind Manchester City.
Despite rumours of Sadio Mane's leaving, 13 players - an unlucky number for some - might yet leave Anfield this summer. Mirror Football examines each player's status to determine whether they will depart the club throughout the season.
The main source of concern for Liverpool supporters. The 30-year-old Senegalese international is apparently keen to leave Anfield this summer, with Bayern Munich set to launch a £25 million approach in the coming days. Mane is expected to cost the Reds at least £42.5 million. That may appear to be a bargain, but his current contract expires in a year.
Mane has been an integral part of Liverpool's recent success, netting 120 goals since joining the club in June 2016, and the Reds may decide to keep him if a hefty offer does not come their way. There's a good likelihood he won't be doing anything this summer.
Milner, James
The 36-year-current old's contract expires at the end of this month, but he's clearly still healthy enough to play in the Premier League after appearing in 39 games across all competitions this season. According to Birmingham Live, Aston Villa has been named as a possible suitor.
Origi, Divock
The 27-year-old Belgian is one player who will not be back at Liverpool next season. Origi's contract will expire at the end of the month, and he is anticipated to join AC Milan on a free transfer. At their final home game of the season, against Wolves, the Reds even handed him a farewell present.
In May, Klopp remarked, "He [Origi] will always be a Liverpool icon to me, and it has been a delight to work with him.""He's one of the most significant players I've had in my career." He will be successful in whatever endeavour he undertakes. When he goes, it will be a difficult time.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberla
Oxlade-Chamberlain is on his way out of Anfield, whether it's this summer or next. The 28-year-current old's contract expires in a year, and he's been placed up for sale, as exclusively disclosed by Mirror Football, with West Ham and Villa keen.
After suffering a major knee injury against Roma in April 2018, Oxlade-Chamberlain is struggled to restore his form. During the last four seasons, he has only started 28 Premier League games. The former Arsenal player is desperate to resurrect his failing career.
Takumi Minamino
Since joining Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, the Japan international's career has never truly taken off, with only 14 goals in 55 games. During the 2020-21 season, he even spent time on loan at Southampton.
Minamino's situation isn't hopeless. He has two years left on his contract, and Klopp says that he is still a part of his plans. "Takumi has always been a long-term project," he remarked in February. It all rests on Minamino's willingness to trust Liverpool's plan for him.
Phillips, Nat
During the 2020-21 season, the 25-year-old was outstanding for Liverpool, resolving Klopp's defensive crisis with the injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, and Joe Gomez. There's no way the Reds would have finished third in the table without Phillips' efforts.
Other possible departures
Rhys Williams: The 21-year-old defender was also instrumental in Liverpool's third-place finish in the Premier League in 2020-21. He struggled during a loan spell at Swansea this season and is anticipated to go out on loan again with four years remaining on his current contract.
Sepp van den Berg: The 20-year-old Dutch youth international has been a regular for Preston throughout his 18-month loan stay, appearing in 64 games across all competitions, but may find it difficult to get into Liverpool's first squad next season. Another loan stint, maybe at Preston, appears to be on the cards.
Neco Williams: The 21-year-old Welsh international, who has 18 caps for his country, spent the second part of the season on loan at Fulham, where he helped the club win the Championship. Despite this, he will struggle for playing time at Liverpool next season and is likely to be loaned out to another Premier League team.
Sheyi Ojo: I'm Sheyi Ojo, and I'm Is he still around? The 24-year-old hasn't featured for Liverpool since the 2016-17 season, and has spent time on loan with Fulham, Reims, Rangers, Cardiff, and Millwall since then. He still has a year left on his contract.
Ben Davies: Since joining Liverpool in January 2020, he has yet to play a single minute, and that is unlikely to change. On loan at Sheffield United this season, the 26-year-old didn't pull up any trees, and another loan seems probable. In June 2025, his contract will come to an end.
Ben Woodburn: The teenager was expected to be Liverpool's next great thing, but his career has yet to take off. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Hearts of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership and will be out of contract later this month. It is believed that the move would be unrestricted.
Loris Karius: Four years after making two errors in Liverpool's 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kyiv, the forgotten man will finally go this summer when his contract ends. Let's hope the 28-year-old is able to rehabilitate his image abroad.
