After 232 first-team appearances, the midfielder's contract expires this month, during which time he has won the FA Cup, Europa League, and League Cup. Lingard has been at United for over 20 years, having progressed through the ranks of the academy in 2012.

Before becoming a household name with his winning extra-time goal in United's 2-1 FA Cup final win against Crystal Palace in 2016, he had loan spells at Leicester, Birmingham, Brighton, and Derby.

Lingard would go on to have a number of great seasons in the first team, but during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign, he failed to secure a regular berth. The 29-year-old opted to fight for his position at Old Trafford again after a successful loan spell at West Ham in the 2020/21 season.

Ralf Rangnick limited him to just 11 games after November, just three of which he started, therefore a change of guard did not affect his final season at United. After being denied an Old Trafford farewell appearance against Brentford, he did not play in the final day defeat against Crystal Palace.

United fans will not be surprised to learn that Lingard's exit has been confirmed by the club, with the player linked with a return to West Ham United. Jesse Lingard sent a farewell message to Manchester United and their fans via social media after his departure was revealed on Wednesday.

Last year, the Warrington native was loaned to West Ham for six months, where he shone and the Red Devils welcomed him back with open arms.

However, he failed to reach the club's expectations this season, resulting in the termination of his contract with no plans for a renewal from the Red Devils. Many supporters flocked to Twitter to express their gratitude for Lingard's service and send him their best wishes.

We wish him all the best
