Real Madrid have a number of players currently registered to the first team that they are considering selling, such as strikers Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz. But there are a couple of loanees Los Blancos will have to make key decisions on, too. Who will be loaned again? Who could be called to the main squad? And who could be sold?
Reinier Jesus had the worst season of any loanee, because he didn’t really even get on the pitch for Borussia Dortmund. After being in demand in the summer 2020 transfer window, the Brazilian attacking midfielder’s once-promising loan to the Bundesliga turned into an unmitigated disaster for the Merengue club. Essentially, two years of the young man’s development were wasted.
However, MARCA’s Mario Cortegana reports that Real Madrid will not give up on the 20-year-old. They are smart for doing this.
Real Madrid must trust in Juni Calafat
Firstly, as Cortegana notes, there is no way they can get a good sale here. Real Madrid invested 30 million euros into Reinier in the winter 2020 transfer window. If they sold him after he never played for Dortmund, they would barely even get a third of that, which would be awful business
Because that ties into the second point Cortegana brought up. Juni Calafat has hit on all of his talent acquisitions thus far. His two big investments from Brazil, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, have paid off big-time. Vini is already a legit superstar, and Rodrygo has shown signs of stardom lately, too.
So why give up on Reinier now? It does not make sense. Real Madrid paid good money for one of the most talented prospects in the world and someone whom one of the best scouting minds on the planet believed in. It is worth it to give more time to see those traits develop. Reinier, after all, is younger than the others and has hardly ever gotten a chance. Plus, he was so good for Castilla in such a short time that clubs like Dortmund, Ajax, and Bayer Leverkusen were looking at him.
Reinier has interest from a few LaLiga clubs. Compatriot and former Real Madrid icon Ronaldo Nazario owns Real Valladolid, and they have just been promoted back to the top flight. Cortegana reports of their interest, and they would make a ton of sense for Reinier and Real.
