Wa: Dehumanizing Flogging of 'Sex Tape' Lovers | Ghana Bar Association

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has criticized suspects in the "sex tape" case in Wa being flogged.

After their sex tape was released on social media, a tricycle driver and a ticket salesperson at the Wa Central Market in the Upper West Region both suffered 20 lashes.

The two were flogged when Wa-Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, reportedly ordered their caning by several Wa youth.

The lady in issue, according to accounts, posted the sex tape on social media on Sunday, May 29, 2022.

After it was discovered that leaked sex recordings were on the rise among the Wa municipality's youth, the Waala Traditional Area enacted a by-law outlawing such acts in late 2021.

In a statement, the GBA condemned the incident, saying that the flogging of the two young people was humiliating, dehumanizing, insulting, and degrading, and that it was a violation of their fundamental human rights.

The savage conduct, according to the statement, violates Articles 12 (2) and 15 (1) (2) (a) and (b) of the (:onstitution, l 99?., which say that

"12. (2) Every person in Ghana, regardless of race, place of origin, political viewpoint, color, religion, creed, or gender, is entitled to the fundamental human rights and freedoms set forth in this Chapter, subject to the limitations set forth in this Chapter.

The GBA is requesting that all parties engaged in the physical abuse of the two young people be arrested, the event be investigated, and the offenders be punished in line with the law.

The GBA has also urged the general public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands by imposing sanctions on persons they believe have breached the law or any community's moral values.
