The cops took advantage of their planned "dramatic visual protest," according to FixtheCountry activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, and led the PR on its intended June 4 march.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Oliver Barker-Vormawor stated, "The spectacular visual protest didn't have the type of effect we intended."

"I was expecting that our democracy would be visually confronted with the imperative of accountability for violence," he stated.

He acknowledged the errors in that action and begged Ghanaians to forgive him as he works to correct his mistakes.

"I hope that when we make mistakes, we are forgiven." And we take advantage of the opportunity to learn and develop from them.  "I've never done anything that wasn't motivated by a passion for our citizens' humanity." I'm the one who has to bear the brunt of this. It's all up to me."

Background

A group of Ghanaians has written to the Accra Regional Police Command, requesting permission to demonstrate for three days beginning June 4 with their own private protection.

The group, which includes broadcasters Captain Smart and Okatakyie Afrifa, is also requesting that protestors be allowed to bring their own registered firearms to the march in order to protect themselves.

"We'll bring our own security firm to ensure protestors' safety." All guns carried by protestors or contracted security professionals will be for personal protection only, and will be legally permissible under the Arms and Ammunitions Act of 1972. (NRCD 9) f) Proposed route and destination: The Demonstrators are expected to congregate at Circle.

"The procession will proceed from Circle to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, where the protestors will demand a slot on GTV to speak directly to the nation and lay out our grievances, in accordance with Article 55(11), which guarantees Ghanaians a fair chance to present their programs to the public through equal access to the state-owned media," according to the statement.

The planned demonstration was motivated by the rumored sale of the Achimota forest and the Agyapa agreement, among other things.

"We feel that the conditions that led to the military government's downfall on June 4th are not only still existent today, but have become worse. Thieves have taken control of the 4th Republic today. Rather than using the law to prevent the looting of the riches, they pillage the state themselves, using the law and police brutality to hide themselves from accountability.

"Every institution has rot, and those who speak out against wrongdoing are now being attacked and abused." "Sometimes the law supports pillage and participates in it," stated French economist, journalist, and statesman Frederic Bastiat.

When the law puts the entire apparatus of judges, police, jails, and troops at the service of the plunderers, the victim is treated as a criminal when he defends himself."
