Despite the fact that the French midfielder has left Manchester United, remarks made by both Cristiano Ronaldo and himself show that they enjoyed a close connection during their time at Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba's friendship with Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is better than ever, despite the fact that he left the club under a cloud.
Since his return to Old Trafford for the second time in 2016, the French midfielder has failed to live up to expectations. The club paid a world-record amount of £89 million for the World Cup champion, but he fell well short of justifying that fee during his time in Manchester.
Pogba was one of the club's most visible figures amid a tumultuous season in which the Red Devils finished with their lowest point total in Premier League history. Ronaldo was another, clearly more renowned figure in the dressing room, which led to allegations of a breach between the two as they jostled for influence inside the ranks.
However, as Pogba's passionate defence of Ronaldo following his best performance of the season against Tottenham - in which the 37-year-old struck a hat-trick - shown, they were far from the truth.
"He's never been an issue for us [Ronaldo]. Our squad has the finest striker in history; he can't be an issue. Today's effort by him and the rest of the squad was outstanding "Pogba stated.
"There's no need to mention Cristiano since everyone knows who he is. That is exactly what he does. He missed the last game, but he returns and scores three goals. Everyone is in a good mood."
It has subsequently been revealed that the love was reciprocated, with The Athletic saying that Ronaldo saw Pogba as one of the few United players he could rely on when things went rough.
While at Real Madrid, the Portugal captain wanted to team up with Pogba because of the 'variety and quality' of the midfielder's passing skills. Both were regarded as role models and sources of advise for the team's younger members. United's former number six even persuaded Ronaldo to be more interactive and patient with his teammates in the locker room.
