After Paul Pogba's departure was revealed, Manchester United was told that Declan Rice would be the finest replacement for the Frenchman. Pogba's contract at Old Trafford will expire at the end of June.
As Erik ten Hag looks to rebuild his midfield, United will most likely try to replace him through the transfer market. United veteran Teddy Sheringham advised them to sign Declan Rice as Pogba's replacement back in March, giving the Dutchman a head start in their quest.
"It'll be difficult to keep him." "He is the best midfielder in the world at the moment," I told West Ham supporters. He has an excellent rating from me. Sheringham told Lord Ping, "He's got everything a central midfielder needs."
"He understands the game, he runs well, he can control the ball, pass it, make solid tackles, and move ahead." In midfield, he has the size of Steven Gerrard; he's so powerful today that even when he's being closed down, he's got the quickness and power to get away from midfielders. That's a highly odd position for a center midfielder to be in.
"[Declan] is the best midfielder in the world, therefore he would be an upgrade over Pogba." Pogba is a gifted young man, but he takes on the incorrect persona. He doesn't excite those around him, and he certainly doesn't inspire his supporters. Someone like Declan, on the other hand, does. You want to play with him because of the way he approaches the game."
Following an impressive few seasons at West Ham, Rice is said to be on Ten Hag's shortlist of targets. With three years left on his contract, the Hammers are set to drive a hard bargain for the England international.
Under David Moyes' guidance, the 23-year-old has evolved into one of the top midfielders in the Premier League. Rice would also add much-needed leadership to the United dressing room, as Sheringham pointed out.
That's because he led West Ham for the majority of the season, with captain Mark Noble mostly on the bench. If United can find a way to reduce West Ham's asking price, Sheringham's analysis shows that he is the right guy to replace Pogba.
