The Electricity Company Of Ghana (ECG) is on the arise of disconnecting apartments, business enterprises, and any institution that uses their power illegally, a few weeks ago news of the ECG disconnecting power supply at the club of ghanaian musician Desmond Blackmore broke out and he was hit with a bill to go and settle before they restore the light.
We also heard of the ECG disconnecting light at the kotoka international airport over unpaid bills. Today, Ghanaians woke up to the news of ECG going after Wontumi Fm and Tv which is owned by the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party Chairman Wontumi over an unpaid bill of around ghc 300,000. Breaking the news, the General manager of the company in an interview revealed the following
“Unfortunately, I don’t have the bill in front of me, but they gave us about GHS300,000 to pay at first, and then they lowered it to over GHS100,000.”
“I’m surprised that this issue is in the news,” he said.
You’ll be surprised to learn that ECG has started to collect the debt. When we bought power from ECG for the first time since the problem started, 40% of the money was taken out to pay off the debt. This means that we have started to pay, so why do you go to the media?”
“As the business manager for the media company, I’m not very technical. I don’t even know what a tempered meter is, so we were just doing our jobs.”
“Until this problem came up, none of my technical staff did that either.”
“We still haven’t told Chairman Wontumi, who owns the station, so we can settle the problem with ECG. As you know, he’s been very busy with his campaign.”
Beware if you using power illegally, because the officials of the ECG are just a moment away from your doorstep.
