Cristiano Ronaldo is left out as Manchester United players select their Player of the Year.Cristiano Ronaldo may have expected to add to his slew of individual trophies following a strong season at Manchester United, but his teammates had other ideas.Cristiano Ronaldo was ignored by his Manchester United teammates in the end-of-season Players' Player of the Awards, which were won by David de Gea.

After scoring 24 goals in all competitions, including 18 in the Premier League, the Portuguese superstar has made a successful return to Manchester. Only Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min, who shared the Golden Boot, scored more goals than the veteran striker. After a number of significant performances for the Red Devils, including hat-tricks in 3-2 victories over Tottenham and Norwich, he also earned seven man of the match accolades. Ronaldo also scored a couple of late goals to help United advance to the Champions League knockout stage before losing to Atletico Madrid. The 37-year-efforts, old's however, were plainly insufficient to persuade his teammates to vote for him at the end of the season, with goalkeeper De Gea taking home the award. Last season, the Spaniard, like Ronaldo, was voted Man of the Match seven times for Man United.

Despite this, Ronaldo may feel upset by the omission, given De Gea's 57 goals conceded in 38 games. But, like his last-gasp penalty save against West Ham to secure a 2-1 win at Old Trafford, the shot-stopper made some crucial saves that probably stopped his number from being considerably higher.De Gea, who was ever-present in United's league season after playing every minute, has now won the trophy four times, more than any other player. His holiday efforts, which included earning the club's player of the month award in November, December, and January, were enough to allow the 31-year-old pip the competition. United's star can take solace in the knowledge that his efforts were recognized by Premier League players when he was named on the six-man shortlist for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award. After winning the award in 2006-07 and 2007-08, Ronaldo has been nominated for it again, and he might become the first player to win it three times.

United had a dreadful season overall, finishing sixth in the Premier League with their lowest point total since the league's inception in 1992. They will compete in the Europa League next season, and new head coach Erik ten Hag is anticipated to make significant changes at Old Trafford this summer.

And the Dutchman will be hopeful that under his guidance, United will have multiple contenders for individual accolades next season, with Ronaldo and De Gea poised to play vital roles for the Red Devils once more.
