Recognizing the best scorers in Europe's top five leagues in 2021/22

After the conclusion of the 2021/22 season, we've chosen to take a look at the top scorers from across Europe's major leagues.

The highest scorers from each of Europe's top five leagues are listed below.

Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min have combined for 23 goals.

This season, the Premier League's Golden Boot was split for the fifth time, as Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min each scored 23 goals.

Salah's award was his third of his career, with only Thierry Henry having won more. Salah began the season with a bang, winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award.

To win the Playmaker Award, the 29-year-old also topped the Premier League in assists (13) and became only the fourth player in Premier League history (after Andy Cole, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, and Harry Kane) to lead the league in both goals and assists in the same season.

Following a career-best season for the South Korean at Spurs, Son also made history as the first Asian to win the Premier League's Golden Boot.

Apart from Harry Kane, the 29-year-old became the first player since Emmanuel Adebayor in 2013/14 to end as the club's top scorer. On the last day of the season, he scored twice against Norwich to tie Salah for the most goals, and he won the Golden Boot despite not scoring a single penalty.

Ciro Immobile has 27 goals in Serie A.

Ciro Immobile won the Capocannoniere for the fourth season in his career, making him the top scorer in Italian football once again.

Immobile has been a prolific scorer since joining Lazio in 2016, adding three more awards to his leading scorer trophy from Torino in 2013/14.

In 2021/22, the 32-year-old ended ahead of Dusan Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez to win the Capocannoniere title, trailing only Gunnar Nordhal (5).

Immobile has now scored 150 goals in just 205 league appearances for Lazio, putting him just six goals away from breaking into the top ten goalscorers in Serie A history.

Karim Benzema has 27 goals in La Liga.

Karim Benzema's outstanding season has made him the clear favorite for the Ballon d'Or, with the Real Madrid forward averaging nearly a goal per game while leading his team to a La Liga and Champions League double.

The 34-year-old has improved his game in recent seasons, finishing as Spain's top scorer for the first time this season with 27 goals, easily ahead of Iago Aspas (18) and Vinicius Junior (17). (17).

As Carlo Ancelotti's side were crowned European champions, Benzema scored 15 goals to finish as the competition's top scorer, his tally the joint-third most prolific individual season in the competition's history.

All signs point to Benzema being named the best footballer in the world later in 2022.

Kylian Mbappe - 28 goals in Ligue 1

Kylian Mbappe has finished as Ligue 1's top scorer for the fourth consecutive season, with the Paris Saint-Germain forward netting a hat-trick on the last weekend of the season to finish ahead of Wissam Ben Yedder.

Mbappe is now just one award short of Carlos Bianchi, Delio Onnis, and Jean-Pierre Papin's five, and will have the opportunity to create history next season after rejecting Real Madrid's advances and signing a new contract with PSG.

He's also only 29 goals away from equaling Edinson Cavani's club-record of 200 goals for the Parisians, a feasible ambition for next season given his current prolific form.

Bundesliga

Robert Lewandowski has a total of 35 goals.

After scoring 35 league goals during Bayern Munich's triumphant Bundesliga campaign, Robert Lewandowski has earned the European Golden Shoe for the second year in a row.

The Poland international is now the best out-and-out goalscorer in world football, and he finished the season as Germany's top goal scorer for the fifth consecutive season and seventh overall, tying Gerd Mullers' record for Kicker-Torjägerkanone titles.

The 33-year-old has scored 40+ goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich in seven consecutive seasons, but his reign as Germany's best attacker may come to an end this summer after expressing a desire for a fresh challenge.

Should he go, he will leave as the league's second-highest scorer, behind only Muller, with 312 goals in 384 appearances for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
