Newcastle reportedly pulled out of the race to recruit Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma, giving Manchester United and Liverpool a boost in their pursuit of him. Some of Europe's best teams have taken notice of Danjuma's performance in his first season in La Liga.
Last season, the 25-year-old scored 16 goals in all competitions, including six in Villarreal's Champions League semi-final run. In a deal worth roughly £21 million, he joined the club from then-Championship side Bournemouth last summer.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with a bid for the Dutch international. Newcastle are also said to be interested, owing to Eddie Howe's signing of Danjuma for Bournemouth in 2019.
The Magpies, on the other hand, are ready to move on to other targets in their quest to improve Howe's team. Newcastle's head coach, according to TalkSPORT, has reservations about Danjuma's temperament.
This clears the way for either Manchester United or Liverpool to sign the player. In his first summer in command at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag is anxious to bolster his attacking options, while Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may want a new winger if Sadio Mane moves for Bayern Munich.
Liverpool had been keeping tabs on Danjuma's improvement, he recently revealed. In Villarreal's ultimately disastrous Champions League semi-final clash against Liverpool, he shone.
"I was advised that Liverpool was keeping a close eye on me. I've never had any communication with clubs or anything like that throughout the season; I always find out what's going on after the season is over.
"I will never lie, and I believe that not being ambitious is a horrible quality." If a club came along that offered me a better sporting platform, I would always take it into consideration."
The former Bournemouth star has expressed his desire to return to England, saying, "I absolutely loved my time in England." Looking back, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I should have when I was there. For me, it's just such a lovely nation to live in, and the fact that I'm fluent in the language also helps. I'm also doing my best in Spanish. Danjuma revealed in April that he still has relations in England.
