With the next huge FSG transfer statement, Liverpool can respond to Man City and end a four-year wait.

Liverpool may have been preparing for this moment for years. The Reds could be about to make a dramatic departure from their typical transfer philosophy. What do Ibrahima Konaté, Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mané, and Luis Daz have in common as Liverpool players? All of them were in the same price range.

The difference in price between the cheapest player on the list, £36 million Konaté, and the most expensive, £43 million Salah, is only a few million pounds. These deals could be classified as'mid-range.'

Many of these players have soon turned into steals. Liverpool, of all the world's top teams, may be the greatest at spotting bargains.

Fenway Sports Group, on the other hand, has been willing to shatter records on a few instances. The Reds' owners spent £66 million for Alisson Becker and £75 million on Virgil van Dijk. They were the most expensive goalie and defender in the history of the game at the time.

These were the elements needed to elevate Liverpool to the next level, where they could compete for Premier League and Champions League success rather than just a top-four finish. Before Van Dijk arrived, Liverpool's backline had been abysmal for years, and he provided not only individual class but also much-needed composure and leadership. Similarly, after losing in the 2018 Champions League final, Liverpool had to acknowledge that they would not be able to achieve their goals without a truly world-class goalkeeper. In addition to Fabinho, Alisson, and Van Dijk,

It's different this time. There are no longer any major flaws in Liverpool's lineup, like there were in 2018. It's now more of a luxury and a question of building from a strong position than it is a necessity.Where do you think Liverpool's next record-breaking investment will go? There will be others who argue that Mané should be replaced by someone of equivalent status, which would necessitate a massive financial spend. The Reds, on the other hand, may choose to reinvest the £42.5 million they expect to get on another mid-range alternative with explosive potential. Mané, of course, came from a sixth-placed Southampton side and was an instant success.

It appears that a midfielder is more likely to be the next big signing. Consider the players who have been linked to Liverpool. Any team would do well to sign Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham for less than £80 million, and Liverpool had a serious interest in Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouaméni, despite the fact that he was on his way to Anfield. When it comes to their available budget, Liverpool is a club that keeps their cards close to their breast. They've been economical for the most part, but it's possible that they've been saving money for a midfield mega-deal.

Their interest in Bellingham and Tchouaméni shows that they want to sign a future superstar; a player who can anchor the midfield for a decade or more, more than repaying their large investment. Liverpool are aware that once-in-a-generation talent is available, and they feel forced to compete for their services.Manchester City has already signed Erling Haaland, which is a worrying omen for its opponents. While this is unlikely to have influenced the Reds' transfer stance, they can retaliate symbolically by winning the Bellingham race this summer or next.
