#FIXTHECOUNTRY: JUNE 4 DEMONSTRATION WAS A HOAX – LEAD CONVENER

Benjamin Darko, the lead convener of the #FixTheCountry campaign, claims they had no intention of participating in the three-day rally scheduled to begin on June 4, 2022.

Conveners of the #FixTheCountry campaign wrote to the Greater Accra Regional Command, saying, "We will organize a three-day demonstration commencing on the 4th of June 2022 at 6 a.m."

On June 4th, a crucial turning point in our political history occurred when the military administration was deposed to prepare the country for a three-month transition to democratic governance.

It is a notable event in Ghanaian politics because it emphasizes the ideals of ethical political leadership and demands probity and responsibility at a period when such values were faded.

They also stated in the letter that they would bring their own security team to guard protestors. All firearms carried by protestors or contracted security personnel will be for personal protection only and will be permissible under the Arms and Ammunitions Act of 1972. (NRCD 9).

"We have no intention of going on a demonstration or demonstrating with armed private security guys," Benjamin Darko said in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show. It was only a method to start a discussion that was misinterpreted. Please accept our deepest apologies if the phrasing was incorrect; nonetheless, we had no intention of doing so."

The letter is seen by the movement as a gentle method of condemning the use of live bullets by police during demonstrations. "It was to protest the reality that the police's first line of crowd control in civil agitations is live gunfire." It wanted to emphasize that while we are demonstrating, we cannot put our lives in the hands of the police."

He stressed that, while the letter was a form of protest, the organization will not organize a protest on June 4, 2022.

Due to the restriction on producing noise in several parts of Accra, the organization would have had a tough time putting together a lively demonstration on the specified date.

In Ghana, there has been a succession of protests that have ended in police officers shooting and murdering demonstrators. Instead of keeping the peace during these protests, the police appear to be going on a rampage and murdering unarmed individuals.

"The plan was not to stage a protest, and I'd want to use this chance to apologize once more." He reiterated, "It is incorrect that we intend to engage in an armed demonstration."
