As a child Casper Ruud watched a ton of tennis on TV, dreaming one day of playing a Grand Slam final. The Norwegian will currently have something to gloat about in the wake of setting up a Sunday date with 13-time French Open hero Rafael Nadal.
The 23-year-old Ruud was certain he could count every one of the finals that Nadal has played at Roland Garros and the rivals the Spaniard crushed during his record pull.
"It will be, no doubt, astounding to be there myself when you have seen ... every one of the folks who have played him in a final," Ruud told columnists on Friday subsequent to overcoming Marin Cilic in the semifinals.
"So to be a piece of that bunch myself is something I can constantly gloat about after my profession. I will obviously offer it a chance at the title, and would be more pleasant to have the option to boast about the title too after my profession."
It will be a first vocation meeting for Ruud against the record 21-time Grand Slam victor Nadal, at whose institute he frequently sharpens his game.
Playing the Spaniard in a Roland Garros final, where Nadal is 13-0 in the title round, is the "best test" in the game for Ruud and he acknowledges that it could appear to be a unimaginable errand to win on Sunday.
"I'm about to attempt to appreciate it," he said.
"I will be the longshot, and I will attempt to, this evening and tomorrow evening long for extraordinary victors and unimaginable meetings, since that is the thing it will take if I have any desire to get any opportunity, and I should play my best tennis of all time.
"However, I actually want to accept that I can make it happen."
With his triumph against Cilic, Ruud turned into the principal Norwegian man to turn into a Grand Slam singles finalist and he trusted it could assist with building interest for the game back in his country.
