According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel would consider selling Romelu Lukaku if it allowed him to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer.
The 29-year-return old's to Chelsea has not gone as planned, and he is now being linked with a return to Inter Milan.
What is the most recent Lukaku news?
Inter are looking into bringing Lukaku back to the San Siro a year after selling him to Chelsea for £97.5 million, according to the Daily Mail.
According to the same source, the striker is willing to take a significant wage reduction in order to complete the transfer.
It's not surprising, given Lukaku's declaration to Sky Italia at the close of last season that he wants to play for the Serie A club once more.
The Belgian scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for the club, winning the Scudetto in the process.
Lukaku is a WORLD-CLASS player! Tuchel is to blame for everything! On The Football Terrace, find out why.
What did O'Rourke have to say regarding Lukaku's future at Chelsea?
Unfortunately, he has not been able to recreate his Inter success at Chelsea due to a variety of factors, scoring only eight league goals in the most recent season.
Tuchel is now expected to let O'Rourke go if a strong deal comes through. "This summer, Lukaku's future will be up in the air," the journalist said of the Belgium international. "I think Thomas Tuchel, if he got the right offer, would seriously consider letting Lukaku move on if it allowed him to bring in other forward reinforcements.
Who could possibly take Lukaku's place at Chelsea?
Chelsea could, ironically, return to Inter this summer to resolve their striker crisis.
According to The Athletic, the Blues are mulling a deal for Lautaro Martinez, Lukaku's former teammate who scored 21 goals in the 2021/22 Serie A season.
In addition, Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is rumored to be on the west London club's radar, according to The Guardian.
However, with Bayern fighting to keep Lewandowski, and the 33-year-old reportedly preferring a move to Barcelona, a move to Stamford Bridge does not appear to be on the cards.
It will be fascinating to see if Chelsea buys a new striker, but much will depend on what happens with Lukaku, who is presently valued at £76.5 million by Transfermarkt.
After the season he's had, they're not going to get their £97 million back, so you'd expect a compromise if he's going to go this summer.
