A 37-year-old driver, Jacob Kwesi Acquah, has been arrested and charged with murdering a Chinese national, Xiong Yin, in cold blood in Dansoman, Accra.
Acquah, the deceased's former employee, is claimed to have gone to her residence to seek the phone number of her housekeeper.
When Xiong went to her room to acquire Acquah's phone number, he reportedly followed her, shoved her into the bed, and strangled her with a pillow.
Acquah was also accused of slamming the deceased's head against the floor and a metal sliding door many times.
He reportedly struck her numerous times with the metal portion of a shower handle.
Two additional suspects, Faustina Otimah, a 21-year-old housekeeper, and Memunatu Allotey, a merchant, appeared in Kaneshie District Court. They are accused of facilitating the murder by supporting Acquah.
They are being jailed on charges of aiding and abetting a crime, namely murder.
Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye, who presided over the hearing, withheld their plea and remanded them in police detention until June 15.
Inspector Apewa Achana, who described the facts of the case, said the complainant, Lin Youji, a Chinese national, lived at Dansoman Exhibition in Accra.
Acquah lived in Chorkor-Santana, and Otimah, the deceased's housekeeper, lived in Mpoase, while Memunatu was Acquah's lover.
Acquah was terminated by the complainant around seven months ago for misconducting himself, according to the prosecution, although Acquah had been in contact with Otimah.
Acquah phoned Otimah on May 10, 2022, and urged her to inform him of the deceased's and her coworkers' actions, particularly when Xiong (dead) was left alone in the home, and that she should leave the tiny gate open while leaving the house.
Acquah contacted Otimah 12 times between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on May 10 to see if Xiong was alone in the house, according to the prosecution.
According to the report, Acquah persuaded Otimah to leave the residence without alerting the dead, and Otimah agreed.
Acquah took advantage of the unguarded gate and entered Xiong's compound, where he met her in the living room and feigned to require Otimah's contact.
According to the prosecutor, Xiong left Acquah in the corridor and walked to her bedroom to pick up her phone and give him the number he asked.
Acquah chased after Xiong, assaulted her, pulled her to her bed, covered her face with a pillow, and strangled her, according to the prosecution.
He picked Xiong and sent her to the bathroom, where she slammed her head on the metallic section of the sliding door and against the floor.
Acquah also allegedly struck her head numerous times with the metal component of the hand shower, causing her to bleed.
After killing her, Acquah proceeded to the living room where a CCTV camera was installed, took it from the ceiling, and threw it in a toilet to erase any evidence that would convict him.
After repeated calls to the dead remained unanswered, the complainant proceeded to the residence, according to the prosecution.
Both the little gate and the main entrance to the numerous rooms were unlocked, much to his amazement.
He ran to unlock the deceased's door, only to discover that it was locked and that the key was in the front.
When the complainant unlocked the door, he saw the room had been plundered, so he went to the deceased's bathroom, where he discovered her supine in a pool of blood.
According to the prosecution, the complainant hurried to the gate and informed one Emmanuel Aziati of what he had seen, and the two went to examine the corpse and report it to the police.
According to the report, officers arrived at the site, took photographs, and transported the body to the Police Hospital Morgue.
The police received information that Acquah was hiding in Memunatu's house on May 12 and went there, but Memunatu held Acquah in her room and led the police to a different location.
According to the prosecution, the police acquired the memory card from the CCTV camera where Acquah was seen in the tape entering the deceased's living room.
