Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of National Security, has traveled the Upper East Region as part of his attempts to examine the security situation in order to improve counter-terrorism operations.
On June 2, 2022, he was joined by a delegation of important players in the country's security architecture.
The Minister was accompanied by Deputy National Security Coordinator Edward Asomani, Chief of Army Staff Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, Chief of Air Staff Air Vice-Marshal Frank Hanson, Chief of Air Staff, and Brig Gen Moses Mohammed Aryee, GOC, Northern Command.
The trip would also allow them to better respond to the rising threat of terrorism in the Sahel. Pulimakom, Mognori, and Bawku were among the places visited. The group examined the survey and boundary pillars between Ghana and Togo at Pulimakom.
The team also requested the Ghana Boundary Commission to move quickly to improve the visibility of existing boundary pillars and replace those that have been damaged, so that operations in border villages do not jeopardize Togo's territorial integrity.
The group condemned aggressive encroachment on buffer zones between Ghana and Togo by both Ghanaians and Togolese, and encouraged Border Security (BORSEC) to step up efforts to preserve the buffer zones from further encroachment.
During the trip, the Minister urged REGSEC members to improve coordination and intelligence sharing while maintaining continuous public awareness campaigns at the regional level to support ongoing efforts to combat the rising danger of terrorism.
The team also paid a visit to the XI Mechanised Battalion's barracks and Forward Operating Bases, where the Minister talked with local security forces and expressed gratitude for their efforts in defending the country from terrorists and violent extremists.
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry of National Security's commitment to continuing counter-terrorism efforts, notably at the country's northern land borders.
He also urged security officers to keep up the excellent job and assured them that the government would give them with the necessary supplies and finances to continue operations.
