The Child Rights International (CRI) has criticized and classified as harmful activities the videotaping and broadcasting of the faces of children who have been subjected to ill-treatment and abuse.

The CRI called for an immediate end to such practices in response to a viral video of an 11-year-old girl whose father reportedly picked her up from school and took her to a traditional herbalist for money rituals.

The claimed video was apparently published on social media by a traditional herbalist in order to dispel the myth that herbalists practice human sacrifice.

The video, which began spreading on social media late last week, has attracted more than 100,000 views so far.  The little girl's face was shown in the video with a mournful expression and seemed confused, as if she had no idea what was going on.

Mr Bright Appiah, the Executive Director of CRI, claimed the act "was growing prevalent in a culture where children, who represent a substantial core of the vulnerable groups, are subjected to various sorts of abuse, including psychological instability," in a statement published and signed by him.

He claims that after being exposed to this type of publicity, most youngsters acquire poor self-esteem and experience various sorts of humiliation.

"They will never be able to recuperate because their faces would be eternally stored on the Internet," Mr Appiah added. Apart from the legislation, Mr Appiah said such behavior was repugnant and in violation of children's fundamental human rights as stated in the constitution.

"Regardless of the seriousness of the issue, we must safeguard children at all costs," he stated.

Mr Appiah outlined some of the strategies to fight the crisis, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the country's parental policy.

He believes that parents should be held responsible for their children's actions, and that the state should not be tolerant toward child abusers.

Mr. Appiah also stated that security agencies must be empowered and adequately taught to protect the dignity of children, particularly while making public statements about child welfare concerns.

He also advocated for a suitable school framework that would secure the school atmosphere from anyone wandering in to pick up a youngster.

Mr Appiah urged the police not to take the issue lightly and to ensure that the father faces the full force of the law.

He stated that this case should be used as an example to dissuade others from repeating such horrible acts.
