Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), has questioned the government's choice to build a National Cathedral in the midst of the country's multiple issues.

Given the slew of unresolved concerns that residents face, he questions whether God himself will be pleased with the endeavor.

In an interview with Benjamin Akakpo on Monday's AM Show, he stated that his worries regarding the National Cathedral are not based on his Muslim inclination, as some have suggested.

Mr. Braimah's opposition to the project stems from the government's plan to demolish most of the country's critical infrastructure to make room for the Cathedral.

As a result, he asked residents to band together in support of the country's appeal for decent government.

"What can I say about the Cathedral?" Any real leader who cares about the future of our country and wants to see prosperity for the future of this country, as I have stated, would not commit us to this unnecessary spending at this time.

Why would you do so now, when so many others are suffering? Children, teachers, parents, and nurses are all suffering as a result of the situation.

I mean, there's suffering everywhere, and the country is deeply in debt, and then we have a President who decides to demolish state structures that were only recently built, and then devote state resources, millions of dollars, to say we're going to build a cathedral. Who is it for? He bemoaned, "I don't think even God will be pleased with these activities that are taking place."

Mr. Braimah also expressed his dissatisfaction with the Akufo-Addo administration. Despite the high hopes that greeted Akufo-election, Addo's he claims that Ghana has deteriorated under his watch.

In a similar event, Manasseh Azure Awuni, an award-winning investigative journalist, has joined his voice to the simmering public discussion about the National Cathedral's importance and the expense of its construction.

The ace investigative journalist also questioned whether God would reside in a Cathedral constructed on evil values in a Facebook post on Saturday.

"God will not dwell in a Cathedral based on falsehoods, deception, and insensitivity," Manasseh Azure wrote.  His remarks came in the aftermath of renewed public outrage over the government's intentions to build a National Cathedral, as well as the government's subsequent release of GH25 million Ghana Cedis to assist the project.

In the meanwhile, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, a Ranking Member of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and a Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has revealed that Parliament has not approved any funding for the construction of the National Cathedral.

The claimed transfer of GH25 million Ghana Cedis by the government as seed money for the project, he claims, is on the Legislature's radar.

In a news conference on Thursday, the NDC MP highlighted his concerns about the lack of openness and insincerity that has characterized the Cathedral's construction.

In this regard, he stated that the Minority is dissatisfied with the financial conditions for the project.

"Today, this letter confirms that, contrary to the President's statements, the National Cathedral Project seems to be significantly sponsored by taxpayer dollars.
