‘OUR BIGGEST ENEMY IS COMPLACENCY’ – ASIEDU NKETIA

The expectation by party members that the NDC will always win political votes in the Volta Region is an issue, according to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"Our greatest foe is complacency, which leads us to believe that no matter what occurs, we have won the Volta Region." We're going to win because it's our stronghold."

Everyone was disappointed, but not shocked, that the Party lost the Hohoe Constituency parliamentary seat, he remarked.

Mr Asiedu Nketia stated the seat was lost partially due to gerrymandering while speaking to Party Branch Executives in Hohoe as part of festivities to celebrate the Party's 30th Anniversary.

He said that, despite their efforts, the cutting away of the Guan enclave from the Hohoe Constituency was unavoidable.

Mr Asiedu Nketia stated the Party members must assess the new Hohoe Constituency without the Guan and begin strategizing to reclaim the seat.

He stated that the party has resolved to do decision-guided research in the Volta Region, particularly in the Hohoe Constituency, in preparation for the general elections in 2024.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia said that the NPP administration was intent on stifling the NDC's power base in the Volta Area by making choices like splitting the region from the Oti region.

He said that the formation of the Oti Region benefited the Party since it was the only region in which all parliamentary seats were gained.

The story at the national level would have been different if the Hohoe seat had been won, according to Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the Party's National Chairman.

He stated that the Party was proud of members in Hohoe who remained firm against all odds and voted for the Party, calling them as great Party heroes.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo asked party officials to begin supporting those who do not have a Ghana Card to register as soon as possible, rather than waiting until the last minute.

He stated that all members must be brought together, reconciled, and perceive themselves as one people with a single objective.

Mr Henry Ametefe, Chairman of the Volta Regional NDC, explained that under parliamentary democracy, a member of a political party must die for that party.

Madam Della Sowah, a Member of Parliament for the Kpando Constituency and a representative of the Volta Caucus, stated that the 2024 elections in the Hohoe Constituency must not be a repeat of the previous elections.

She urged party members to get to work right away, rather than waiting until it was too late.  Mr. George Bright is a businessman. Anni Bansah, the Party's Hohoe Constituency Chairman, requested the national leadership to put in place measures to guarantee that the party's votes in the Constituency are preserved ahead of the 2024 election.

Members were also made aware of the Party's membership registration procedures at the event.
