Last month, Reds fans traveled to the Stade de France in the hopes of watching the Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Liverpool. However, poor planning resulted in people queuing for hours outside the stadium before disgusting incidents involving the use of tear gas by police.Local thugs targeted the traveling support and used unnecessary tear gas on them.
The final was over 30 minutes late, which UEFA falsely blamed on late arrivals by fans. The governing body has already made a complete 180-degree turn, apologizing for the bad experience and offered refunds to the 2,700 ticket holders who were unable to enter the stadium.
Fans have now gone one step further and demanded a refund, even if they were eventually able to watch the match inside the stadium. One Reds supporter resorted to Twitter to share a UEFA link before urging their fellow Reds to get a refund.
"For everybody who attended last Saturday's Champions League Final - I would recommend getting a refund," another Liverpool supporter posted. I understand that monetary compensation may not be enough to assist some people overcome their traumas, but hopefully this will force the powers that be to acknowledge their errors."
Because they were encircled by fences, Liverpool fans had to queue for hours.
They were met with police antagonism in the form of tear gas.
"No football fan should be put in such predicament, and it must not happen again," UEFA admitted.
"On a night that should have been a celebration of European club football, Uefa wishes to sincerely apologize to all spectators who had to suffer or witness terrifying and disturbing incidents in the build-up to the Uefa Champions League final at the Stade de France on 28 May 2022 in Paris."
It's unclear whether UEFA would back down and compensate thousands of Liverpool fans whose experience has been tainted. However, in the case of the Euro 2020 final, spectators were reportedly able to secure full refunds after complaining about the problems they had at Wembley.
