The £76.5m star is now 'weighing his options' after being linked to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea's presence in London could be appealing to Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling as he considers his future, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Blues are thought to be interested in the England international this summer, but Jones believes he would prefer to join a team abroad.
What is the most recent Sterling news?
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea may consider signing Sterling during the upcoming transfer window.
The club's new owners are set to back manager Thomas Tuchel, with Todd Boehly reportedly ready to hand the German a £200 million war chest.
While Sterling is worth £76.5 million, Tuchel's priority this summer will undoubtedly be defense, despite the fact that he is in the final year of his City contract.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho must now find replacements for Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who have decided to leave the club.
Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Sterling is currently weighing his options, and while the transfer insider believes Chelsea could be appealing to the 27-year-old, he believes Sterling will opt for a move abroad.
"Obviously being back in London, you can say that's one positive," Jones told GMS. Raheem Sterling is currently away and contemplating his future. There's a slim chance he'll sign a new contract with Manchester City, but I, Finally, I believe that if he seeks a new challenge, he will look overseas."
Why is Chelsea interested in signing Sterling?
Tuchel has made it clear that he is dissatisfied with the numbers his forward players have been producing, citing it as one of the reasons Chelsea fell so far behind City and Liverpool last season.
"We need to produce more numbers because the numbers we produce from our offensive players don't allow us to over-perform, and we need over-performance," the 48-year-old said in late May. "We need to outperform if we want to get closer to the top two teams." I'm not pointing fingers or blaming anyone, but we need exceptional performance from everyone, and it's not over-performance if we have only single figures in scoring and assisting.”
In 2003, how much did Roman Abramovich pay for Chelsea FC?
Sterling has nearly 100 assists and has scored over 130 goals for City. On paper, he appears to be the obvious solution to the Blues' offensive woes.
The only question is whether the former Liverpool man can replicate his skill in Pep Guardiola's system in Tuchel's setup. It's one thing Chelsea should think about before making a move for him this summer.
