The police have expressed their concerns over Arise Ghana Group's planned nighttime picketing in front of the Jubilee House.
This came after the Police met with Arise Ghana's leadership on Monday to discuss their planned demonstration in front of the Jubilee House.
The Group is planning a rally on June 21 to protest economic problems, worsening economic conditions, draconian taxation, governmental takeover and land grabs, as well as the country's high gasoline prices.
"The Police administration stated numerous reasons for their reservations, including terrorist risks, insufficient manpower, and lack of logistics to maintain security for the over 5,000 individuals overnight," the Group said in a statement on Monday.
The leadership of Arise Ghana, however, stayed firm, insisting that members would not compromise "on our 48-hour demonstration and picketing in front of the Jubilee House," according to the statement.
The discussion, according to the Group, reached a stalemate due to a lack of agreement on both sides and will therefore reconvene on Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m.
COP Tetteh Yohuno, COP Ken Yeboah, COP Awuni, COP Habiba, and COP Suraj represented the police administration.
Kwabena Bobie Ansah, Kobby Barlon, Bernard Mornah, Rex Omar, Mensah Thompson, Listowel Nana Poku, Mordecai Thiombiano, Nana Ntow Amirekyi, Dramani Selorm Dzramado, and Abdul Rahman Zakari were among the Arise Ghana representatives.
Last month, the coalition convened a news conference demanding that the government not only remove E. I. 144, but also cease land grabs in the Achimota Forest Reserve and abolish the Electronic Transaction Levy.
Mordecai Thiombiano, the Group's General Secretary, said during a news conference in Accra that the Group planned to conduct a major rally on June 21 to pound home its demands.
"...we desire to tell all Ghanaians that on the 21st of June 2022, we will be staging a massive demonstration in Accra to push home our demands."
"We, therefore, urge on all Ghanaians who want to see a change in our beloved country's affairs to come out in force and join us on the streets of Accra for this historic demonstration," he said.
