Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the NDC's Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, has challenged the FixTheCountry Movement to demonstrate that they are truly sorry.

The group's organizers apologized to the public a few days earlier for the unintended consequences of their planned armed demonstration on June 4, 2022.

The Ghana Police Service was told of the Movement's plan to stage a 'armed' protest, which sparked outrage.

The Ghana Police Service reacted to the organization on Wednesday, saying it couldn't hold the three-day 'armed' rally.

The rally has the potential to disturb public order and safety, according to the police, therefore they should reconsider and plan a legitimate and peaceful protest."

Apology

FixTheCountry Movement made a statement on Thursday, June 2, 2022, claiming that their method was wrong.

"We sincerely apologize to the general public, particularly our fans." "We want to emphasize that #FixtheCountry is a nonviolent democratic accountability campaign," the Conveners stated.

"In this moment of clarity, we want to reaffirm our commitment to actively guaranteeing the safety of our events and all guests." We also reaffirm our commitment to continue fighting for victims of police violence, who will remain at the forefront of our efforts," they said.

The North Tongu MP said they should not only repent, but also "show that you're now on the righteous road..." in a conversation on Joy Newsfile on Saturday.

Despite the fact that their reasons for protest are real and they have the right to demonstrate, he believes that engaging in such a demonstration is a no-no.

"They're addressing serious problems," he continued, "but they shouldn't jeopardize their case."

Meanwhile, he has begged Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the Convener of the Fixthecountry Movement, not to smear his name.

"I know him (Oliver) and he's a lovely man," he said, "but he shouldn't tarnish his reputation by doing stuff like that."
