RICE FARMERS LOOKING FORWARD TO A GOOD SEASON UNDER NSEREWA

After getting help under the Nserewa initiative, rice farmers in the Volta area are optimistic about the next season.

Through funding from the Nserewa crowd-farming scheme, the approximately 300 farmers, the majority of whom are women, who are currently working on 1200 acres in Asutuare, Weta, Kpoglo, and Golokuati received a complete set of inputs for the season, including seed, fertilizer, crop protection, and technical support.

The Chi-Gaba Outgrower Support Scheme is implementing the 1200-acre project, which is projected to transform the lives of beneficiary farmers, produce over 2,000 tons of rice, and provide value for sponsors.

The rice growers expressed their delight with the results thus far at a stakeholder meeting.

"We weren't sure how we were going to farm this year when the season started because all of the input prices had gone up." I wasn't sure how I'd be able to obtain input, particularly fertilizer. But Chi-Gaba stepped in to assist us, providing all of the necessary inputs, training, and technical assistance. "Now, anytime I see the fields and rice growing, I'm thrilled," Enyonam, a benefit farmer, said during the gathering.

Auntie Aku, another farmer, said the help received this year has given them a lifeline and pledged to work carefully on behalf of the farmers to achieve the outcomes.

"Chi-Gaba has been a strong supporter of ours. Someone like myself, on the other hand, would not be able to farm this year if it weren't for them. Consider how terrible life would be for my family and me. My farm is flourishing well, and the high-quality fertilizers we purchased are doing their job. Now we'll continue to look after the crops to ensure a nice harvest," she added.

Eugene Zori, the Project Technical Lead for the Nserewa Rice Project, told the farmers that they would get continued assistance and that the scheme will be expanded in the following seasons. To acquire the best harvests, he recommended farmers to be vigilant and follow all rules.

Newage Agric Solutions Limited runs the Chi-Gaba outgrower support program. Chi-Gaba guarantees that farmers receive the input and technical help they require during the farming season. Farmers repay the inputs in the form of produce after harvest.

Chi Gaba is now working with over 10,000 farmers in Ghana on rice, maize, and soya cultivation.
