The government of Ghana concluded phase one of its YOUSTART stakeholders' engagement on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in Koforidua, after engaging MMDCEs and Regional Ministers from the Eastern, Volta, and Oti Regions on a sensitization drive for the program yet to be launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The goal of the sensitization and engagement with various stakeholders is to obtain input on the YOUSTART Program before it is officially launched by the President of the United States.

In light of the government's preparations for the launch of the YOUSTART, the second phase of stakeholder engagement will begin on Monday, June 6, 2022, with Civil Society Organizations, the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Ghanaian Industries, identifiable youth groups, NABCO beneficiaries, and Faith-Based Organizations.

Speaking during the latest engagement program for various government institutions, Regional Ministers, and MMDCEs, Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development, said the YOUSTART Programme has the potential to affect the local economy.

The Member of Parliament for the Eastern Region's Okere Constituency stated that the program's nature and good impact on the local economy necessitated MMDCEs being sensitized to urge adolescents in their various locations to take advantage of the YOUSTART when it is introduced.

Dr John Ampontuah Kumah, the Deputy Minister of Finance and member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, said it was important for the government to engage various organizations and groups in the country to drive understanding and acceptability of the program.

"So far, we've enlisted the help of every municipal, metropolitan, and district chief executive, and urged them to set up YOUSTART Desks at the grassroots level in advance of the launch." We will also interact with civil society organizations, the Ghana Chamber of Commerce, the Association of Ghanaian Industries, identified youth groups, NABCO beneficiaries, Faith-Based Organizations, and the media in the coming days," he informed the press.

"The government has worked over the last years to alleviate the country's unemployment condition through recruiting into the public sector, NABCO, 1D1F, planting for food and jobs, among other things," he said.

"To substantially reduce unemployment, the government has launched YOUSTART, which aims to create one million jobs in the next three years. As a result, we want to make sure that everyone is involved in the planning and execution of the program. That is why we are devoting so much effort to this engagement," he explained.
