Dry skin lacks moisture and may feel tight or itchy especially after shower. Cleansers, soap and water can remove the skin's natural oils that keep it supple and prevent dryness.
Soaking your skin in hot water for extended periods of time can strip your skin of its natural oils, irritating skin that already lacks moisture. Sometimes that results in itching after a shower. The itching may mostly happen on your feet or legs because those parts of your body have so much contact with water.
The best way to prevent itchy skin after taking a shower is to apply moisturizer immediately after towelling off. Using a heavy moisturizer such as cream, oil or ointment while the skin is still slightly damp and help seal in moisture.
We can also adopt the following remedies;
1. Keep showers as short as possible.
2. Avoid long, hot baths.
3. Avoid using washcloths, scrubs or harsh sponges.
4. Gently pat the skin dry.
5. Do not apply large amounts of soaps for lather.
