The Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), a renowned indigenous Ghanaian bank, today announced the launch of an online portal that allows users to link their Ghana Cards to their UMB accounts without having to visit a branch.

Customers may scan their Ghana Cards with their phones and upload the information to a secure gateway using the EZ- UPDATE service. Customers may then log in to this website and link their Ghana card to their account. All bank accounts in Ghana must be connected to Ghana Cards by July 1, 2022, according to the Bank of Ghana. This is in accordance with the Bank of Ghana's and the government's plan to make the Ghana Card the primary form of identification in Ghana.

"The search for a single source of truth and the subsequent integration of databases is a critical ambition for Ghana," Nii Amankra Tetteh, Executive Director Business of the Bank, told this reporter. "Bringing financial data into this integration is important, and the BoG's support for it is commendable." We know that a huge number of clients are denied banking advantages because the bank is unable to do KYC on them. EZ UPDATE is our own digital invention that reflects our clients' current lives. Even at 2 a.m. on a Sunday, our consumers may now easily update their accounts. Since 1972, this has been the UMB edge that we have been pleased to provide to Ghana."

With the debut of EZ UPDATE, UMB joins a select group of Ghanaian banks that provide the service. Over 80% of Ghanaian banks presently require consumers to complete the linking process in person at their locations. UMB and a few other banks have devised digital methods for customers to link their accounts.

"At UMB, we pride ourselves in inventing for client convenience, since 1972," stated Madam Belinda Boamah, Executive Director (Strategy) of the Bank in her remarks on the product. EZ UPDATE was created in-house by the Bank using Ghanaian resources, and it delivers world-class results. It's another milestone in our digital reimagination journey, as we want to be digital first for customers in the next 50 years.

We're working hard to get to the point when our clients may completely engage with the Bank online, ensuring genuine ease and accessibility."

The service may be accessed via the UMB website or at http://Ezupdate.myumbbank.com.

Since 1972, UMB has been a renowned indigenous bank known for providing a distinctly Ghanaian viewpoint to banking. The bank is headquartered in Accra and is regulated by the Bank of Ghana. It has 35 locations around Ghana. Its long-term goal is to become a digital-first, SME-focused bank.

SPEEDAPP, one of the top performing agnostic banking applications in the sub-region, is one of the bank's inventions in this market. The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) network counts UMB as a key member.
