The massive cavity appeared to be swallowing the players, similar to a scene from Netflix's hit show Stranger Things. The deadly hole had no effect on the Demark stars, however manager Kasper Hjulmand was left fuming.

Fans who were watching the game compared it to a portal from the Netflix series Stranger Things.

"An entry to the UpsideDown," one said.

Another referenced Vecna, the show's antagonist.

"More strange Things showcasing getting wiiiiiild now!!!," a third joked.

Instead of Vecna, Jens Stryger Larsen was Austria's bad man for the day.

After Xavier Schlager had cancelled out Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's opener, Larsen struck Denmark's champion with six minutes left to give Ralf Rangnick's team a chance to win.

Hjulmand commented after the game: "That massive hole in the pitch has been photographed. It was a risky situation for the guys." It was difficult to maneuver around the field since it was so bad.

"It's like getting caught in a sand trap; it's complete pandemonium." The more we trod on the grass in the warm-up, the more difficult it became."

"Horrible," Andreas Skov Olsen, a Danish star, added. "I think they know they should have improved."

"The hole might have ruined somebody's career. Luckily, that didn't happen."The match had proactively gotten off to a ridiculous beginning, being deferred by an hour and a half because of a blackout.

It denoted Rangnick's most memorable misfortune as Austria chief, after the previous Manchester United break had gotten off to a fantasy start by winning 3-0 in Croatia.
