'Something died inside me,' Lewandowski says of his transfer wish and warns Bayern Munich not to stand in his way

The prolific Polish striker is eager to move on from the Allianz Arena and hopes that his current club will respect his decision.

Robert Lewandowski has reiterated his desire to leave Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window, with the Poland international striker claiming that "something died inside" him when talk of new terms being tabled in Germany began to drag on.

The 33-year-old forward had another outstanding season in 2021-22, scoring 50 goals across all competitions, and the two-time FIFA Best award winner has now scored at least 40 goals in each of the last seven seasons.

With the prolific Pole showing no signs of slowing down, Bayern would have been expected to do everything possible to keep him, but Lewandowski has indicated that this was not the case, and he is now looking for a new challenge away from the Allianz Arena.

Will Robert Lewandowski depart Bayern Munich in 2022?

One of the greatest modern-era goal scorers has spoken to OnetSport about his future plans and why he feels the need to sever ties with Bayern after eight years: “I am leaving because I want more emotions in my life.

"They refused to listen to me until the very end." Something died inside of me, and it's impossible for me to recover. "You can't make up for it even if you want to be professional." When you have been at the club for so many years and have always been ready and available, despite injuries and pain, I believe it is best to find a good solution for both sides. And to avoid looking for a one-sided decision. "That makes no sense. Not at this point. This loyalty and respect are probably more important than this business after such a successful path and my part of readiness and support."

The reigning Bundesliga champions are linked to a talismanic figure tied to a contract through 2023 and could force him to see that agreement through before potentially leaving as a free agent a year later.

Lewandowski does not anticipate that stance being taken because, with Bayern being heavily linked with Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, obstructing his path would not send the best message to those considering moves to Bavaria.

When asked if his current employers could play hardball, Lewandowski replied, "What for? What kind of player would want to come to Bayern knowing that this could happen to him? "Where is the loyalty and respect?" I've always been prepared, I've spent eight wonderful years here, and I've met so many wonderful people and I'd like it to remain that way in my mind."

Barcelona have confirmed that they are still interested in signing Lewandowski, with Blaugrana boss Xavi admitting that a proven No.9 is a target at Camp Nou, but no agreement has been reached as of yet, and the saga could drag on for a few more weeks.
