Against the state-owned clubs, Real Madrid has a hidden weapon.

Football is changing, and it's not for the better. The first domino to fall in the way state-aligned entities may disrupt the dynamics of the transfer market with nearly endless cash influx was Roman Abramovich's purchase of Chelsea, but PSG and Manchester City were owned by Qatar and the UAE, respectively.Real Madrid used to be the most financially powerful club in the world, according to Florentino Perez's "Galacticos" marketing campaign, which was far more successful than the team's on-field performance suggested. Despite Madrid's failure to meet expectations due to an unbalanced roster, Perez established a global brand that, at the time, changed the transfer market - not just for Real, but for all of football.

Los Blancos will no longer be able to compete with the likes of PSG and Manchester City. Nobody is capable of doing so. These are clubs with spending and pay deficits of almost one billion euros. As president Nasser Al-Khelaifi effectively controls UEFA, PSG demonstrated that FFP does not reach it. He is the chair of the ECA, and he even got a free pass.In fact, PSG has lost the last two transfer market wars to Real Madrid, as top Ligue 1 midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have firmly spurned bigger offers and aggressive recruiting from PSG to join Real Madrid.

The Merengues, of course, eliminated them in the Champions League Round of 16 en route to winning the competition for the sixth time in a decade. Despite spending millions, the Qatar sportswashing project has yet to win a competition.

Real Madrid's success in 2021/22 can be attributed to a variety of factors. But there is one that transcends the pitch or the dynamics of heart, character, DNA, or whatever you want to call it.

Calafat has been sowing the seeds for Tchouameni for years, seeing him five times this season in Monaco. Calafat had Tchouameni in mind. He was well aware that Tchouameni was a unique acquisition, and he made it obvious to the midfielder that he would be highly prized by Real Madrid.

Tchouameni knew he was sought by the world's largest club, and he is now expected to come at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Real Madrid's victory in the Champions League over state-owned clubs was no fluke.Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes were brought in by Calafat. Fede Valverde, who he acquired for only five million euros from Penarol, may have been his best acquisition. Valverde is now the world's most valuable center midfielder – and he can also play right winger...good enough to beat every state-owned club in the Champions League.

It's no surprise that Real Madrid's journey to the title included matches against each of these clubs and was aided by players recruited by Calafat.

Florentino Perez has known for years that in order to keep winning the Champions League ahead of the UAE, Qatar, Abramovich, and Premier League money (clubs like Crystal Palace, Leeds, Brighton, and Aston Villa had a higher net spend since 2012/13...), he needed to increase his net expenditure.

Calafat, on the other hand, allows him to do just that. With a combined value of roughly 100 million euros, Vini Jr. and Rodrygo were not cheap. They now appear to be bargains. Tchouameni's transfer for nearly 100 million euros appears pricey, but in the long run, it may be seen as a steal, especially in comparison to these mediocre clubs (and, when you consider what they stand for, PSG is more pitiful than any Premier League overspender) spending the same money on three players who can't even lace Tchouameni's boots.
