The government, through the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), has shown that the wages of public area labourers will not be set in stone by the efficiency of the worker.
This was uncovered by the Acting Director, Research, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Head of Public Affairs of the Commission, Earl Ankrah, on Joy FM on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.
As indicated by him, efficiency has never been a measuring stick to decide the compensation a public area specialist merits.
He noticed that public area labourers are right now paid in light of the assumptions for their work and not their results.
In any case, rushed to add that the Commission is looking to survey this in the new period of the Single Spine Salary Structure.
"Right now, to decide compensation, we go through work assessment and we place the specialist onto the Single Spine Salary Structure which figures out what pay they procure.
"Albeit the efficiency perspective should be a piece of the Single Spine, we've not begun however during the current year's National Labor Conference, members marked a report that said the Single Spine should be surveyed and I accept the survey cycle will consider the efficiency part of pay rates," he expressed.
Mr Ankrah's disclosure came on the rear of the Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annie's case that public area labourers are for the most part overpaid for work done.
As per the Professor, public area labourers are paid twofold for their results overall.
He has, consequently, required the making of a Public Productivity Committee of Parliament to fill in as the Public Accounts Committee and guarantee that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and the public area, as a general rule, convey yield comparable with their profit.
His assertion has been met with reactions from the work front.
