After his street friend poured boiling water on him for allegedly taking his food, a 32-year-old homeless guy is trying to seek medical help.
Francis Agyei, who refused to consume his friend's dish, suffered serious mid-section burns and was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
However, because he lacks the financial means or family contacts to cover his medical expenses, hospital staff have been seeking cash from within the organization to help him.
Francis Agyei moved to Kumasi from his hometown of Sefwi Bekwai in search of better pastures. He's been sleeping in an unfinished structure in Denkyembuoso, Kumasi, since then.
"I came to Kumasi to work and make a living so that I could support my family." Before coming here, I was into 'galamsey.' "I've been in the city for three and a half years," he explained.
Francis, who is wrapped in bandages around his torso and arms, claims that while he was asleep, his companion, who was under the influence of alcohol, spilled boiling water on him.
He said he challenged him earlier over a meal he claimed he ate.
"We didn't hold a grudge against one other." My friend said that the rice he had left had been consumed. Around 3 a.m., he returned to the house and demanded his meal. I informed him that I had not consumed it.
I walked away from him and returned to my bed. He approached me at 5:00 a.m. and threw boiling water on me," he alleged.
Francis was severely burned and is presently undergoing therapy.

Dr. Papa Kwasi Fiifi-Yankson, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, says Francis has been imprisoned because he is unable to pay his expenses.
"At first, he was seen and given the essential medications as well as an occlusive bandage. He's been released and will continue to attend the hospital as an out-patient. He'll be treating his wounds every two to three weeks. He'll have to pay GHC300 to 500 per dressing.
"However, he has been imprisoned since he is unable to pay his debts," he explained.
Francis, who is unable to pay his bills due to a lack of funds, has relied on the kindness of medical staff to treat his wounds and give daily meals.
Hagar Baidoo, an emergency nurse at KATH, has been spearheading the fight to raise money to pay for his medical costs.
"When he was readmitted to the hospital, there was no one to assist him with his expenditures. As a result, I decided to raise money from nurses and physicians," she explained.
Francis will have no where to go if he is released today. He is pleading for assistance.
"I'm appealing to my mother and siblings to help me," he said.
