Liverpool are threatening to stymie Manchester United's pursuit of Darwin Nunez.
Liverpool have expressed interest in a summer transfer for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, putting Manchester United's pursuit of him in jeopardy. Jurgen Klopp is keen to replace Sadio Mane with the highly-rated 22-year-old, according to reputable reports published on Wednesday morning.
In his first transfer window as United manager, Erik ten Hag's main striker target is Nunez, but the club's priority is center midfield. And, with Liverpool attempting to sabotage a deal for the Uruguayan, Express Sport has identified four possible replacements for the Uruguayan.
Nkunku, Christopher
Christopher Nkunku had a fantastic 2021-22 season and can play anywhere on the front line, which will appeal to Ten Hag given United's lack of wing depth. Last season, the 24-year-old made 55 goal contributions in 51 games for RB Leipzig in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and contributing 20 assists.
Nkunku would certainly seek a greater transfer fee than Benfica's £85 million for Nunez, given Leipzig's unsurprising unwillingness to sell this summer. However, the Frenchman's statistics are among the greatest in Europe, and his capture would send a strong message in reaction to United's main rivals snatching target No 1.
Scamacca, Gianluca
Along with Nunez, Gianluca Scamacca has emerged as one of Europe's most promising young strikers. Last season, the 23-year-old scored 16 Serie A goals for Sassuolo, the competition's 11th-placed team, and has been linked with a move to the Premier League.
He's worth £45 million and, like Nunez, has the ability to play the role that Sebastien Haller excelled in at Ajax under Ten Hag. Scamacca idolizes Manchester United's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although he lacks the versatility of Nunez and Nkunku.
Patrik Schick (Patrik Schick)
Only Robert Lewandowski scored more Bundesliga goals in 27 appearances last season than Patrik Schick, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months. However, Ralf Rangnick's Old Trafford leave may have changed plans as he signed with RB Leipzig.
Schick, on the other hand, is a smart alternative, and the Czech Republic international will soon be entering his prime years at the age of 26. After sharing the Euro 2020 award with Cristiano Ronaldo and having a good club season, Bayer Leverkusen is thought to value him at £58 million.
Moussa Dembele
Moussa Dembele, on the other hand, is a less appealing alternative than Nunez and Nkunku. After Alexandre Lacazette's likely return to Lyon, the Frenchman should be available this summer, and he is on United's list of objectives.
Dembele, who turns 26 this year, can also play on the wing to compensate for United's dearth of wide players. And, after scoring 22 goals and adding five assists in Ligue 1 last season, he'll be on the club's mind if they have to give up on Nunez.
