Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, the National Health Insurance Authority's (NHIA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), held a special board and management retreat at Peduase to assess the organization's current state, probe challenges, procure solutions, and empower staff to give their best as he takes over the office.

Dr. OkoeBoye spoke during the retreat, pledging his support for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and laying out his 5-vision plan, which he dubbed the "5Ds @2D." At 2 (two) decades, the '5Ds' stand for Digitalization, Decentralization, Development, Information Dissemination, and Data. These, he stated, will be the pillars of his transformative strategy, which will see the NHIA become Ghana's most visible and well-structured public service organization.

Dr. Ernest K. P. Kwarkore, NHIA Board Chair and retreat chairman, reaffirmed the board's support for the newly appointed CEO and praised him for his innovative ideas, emphasizing that he is a team player with qualities that position him as a fair, friendly, but firm individual with the health sector's development at heart.

In response to the need to increase staff capacity for efficiency, Dr. Kwarko argued for staff training on a regular basis and urged Dr. Okoe Boye to position NHIS employees in areas where they are strongest in order to realize their maximum potential.

As board members, he stated that they would continue to work hard to define the Scheme's policy to guarantee that every Ghanaian is covered.  At the retreat, the leaders of the Authority's many directorates took turns presenting the condition of their departments, focusing on their issues and specific forecasts for the next two years. Dr. OkoeBoye informed the department heads that he is ready to face the challenges of turning the organization's fortunes around. He urged employees to think of the NHIA as a learning organization where everyone must work to develop their profession and competence via required and ongoing training.

As the Scheme approaches its 20th anniversary, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye stated that a retreat will be organized once a year to allow the NHIA board and administration to track the organization's success.
