Dela Coffie is detained by the Special Prosecutor.
Coffie was proclaimed sought by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Friday, June 3rd, for "forgery of an official document."
Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, announced in an official statement that his office had obtained "a warrant of arrest" for Coffie for "corruption and corruption-related offences."
The charges were not described in detail.
Despite being a well-known NDC activist, Coffie has been vocal in his opposition to the party's 2020 presidential candidate, John Mahama.
Dela Coffie declares, "I am available."
Meanwhile, Coffie said on Facebook that he is accessible "right here in Ghana and would submit myself to any enquiries of law enforcement authorities since I have nothing to hide" shortly after the news.
"Dela Coffie is a law-abiding person who is prepared to combat any false claims aimed at damaging my reputation among right-thinking people of society," he continued.
The following is the entire text of his post:
Notice of a Person Wanted
My attention has been raised to a warrant of arrest issued against me by the Special Prosecutor.
First and first, I want to clarify that I am available right here in Ghana and that I will submit to any law enforcement agency inquiries since I have nothing to hide.
In terms of context, I believe the Special Prosecutor is connecting me to a petitioner who has filed a complaint against former Minister Atta Akyea with his office.
However, let me stress that the Special Prosecutor's carelessness in issuing an arrest warrant without consulting me, as his office's rules of engagement require, will be exposed to proper court review.
My attorneys have taken up the case, and we will address the concerns head-on.
Dela Coffie is a law-abiding person who is prepared to combat any false accusations aimed at ruining my reputation among right-thinking citizens.
