Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has remarked that party members' belief that the NDC will always win political polls in the Volta Region is a concern.
"Our greatest foe is complacency, which leads us to believe that no matter what occurs, we will win the Volta Region. We will triumph because it is our stronghold. he declared"
He said the party's loss of the Hohoe parliamentary seat was disappointing but not surprising.
The 10th anniversary of the party
Mr Asiedu Nketiah, speaking to party branch executives in Hohoe as part of celebrations to celebrate the party's 30th anniversary, claimed the seat was lost largely due to gerrymandering.
Even though it was illegal, he maintained, the cutting away of the Guan enclave from the Hohoe Constituency could not be overturned, no matter how hard they tried.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated the party members must assess the new Hohoe Constituency without the Guan and begin strategizing to reclaim the seat.
Members were also made aware of the party's membership registration procedures throughout the event.
Research by Volta
He stated that the party has resolved to do decision-guided research in the Volta Region, namely in the Hohoe Constituency, in order to win the general elections in 2024.
He said that the NPP government's initiatives, like as the formation of the Oti Region, were aimed at undermining the NDC's power base in the Volta Region.
He said that the formation of the Oti Area benefited the NDC by making it the only region in which all parliamentary seats were won.
Ghanaian Identification Card
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the party's National Chairman, asked party officials to begin aiding persons without a Ghana Card to register as soon as possible rather than waiting until the last minute.
According to him, the Ghana Card might be the definitive identity card for the general election in 2024.
As a result, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo urged people to obtain the Ghana Card and vote for the NDC in 2024. He emphasized the need of bringing all members together, reconciling with one another, and seeing themselves as one people with a single goal.
Henry Ametefe, the Volta Regional NDC Chairman, remarked that under parliamentary democracy, a member of a party must sacrifice for his or her party.
Della Sowah, the NDC Member of Parliament for Kpando, stated that the 2024 election in the Hohoe Constituency must not be a repeat of the 2016 election.
She urged party members to get to work right away rather than waiting until it was too late.
George Bright Anni Bansah, the NDC's Hohoe Constituency Chairman, has asked the party's national officials to put in place mechanisms to secure the party's votes in the constituency ahead of the 2024 elections.
