The 2022 Oguaa Fetu Afahye has been formally launched by the Oguaa Traditional Council.

After a two-year hiatus owing to COVID-19 regulations, the festival returns. At a ceremony at Cape Coast, the celebration, called "Making Cape Coast Great Again: A Key to Education, Tourism, and Development," was officially started.

The Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, announced at the event that the festival has returned with the goal of restoring the lost name of Cape Coast.

Osabarima Kwesi Atta II also invited all Cape Coast residents to contribute to the success of this year's festivities.  The event is a time for mingling and recognizing ourselves as Oguaa residents. It's a time to acknowledge that we live in Oguaa with spirits. It is a time to memorialize prior leaders who have passed away, as well as those who have helped to shape Oguaa into what it is today. "The goal of this event is to re-energize Oguaa," he said.

He also urged the youngsters to put their differences aside and avoid aggressive behavior that may derail the celebration.

The Paramount Chief also discussed the impact of COVID-19, which caused the festivities to be halted for the past two years, as well as the importance of the people of Cape Coast coming together.

"I disagree with the claim that COVID-19 took over the event. It didn't take over completely. We've gone back on our own, and whether or not this year's festival is pleasurable is entirely up to us.

Perry Mensah, Chairman of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye Planning Committee, assured the crowd that the festival will be spectacular and explained the theme for this year's event.

"The theme is simple," he continued. Cape Coast is the epicenter of education, and we have an educational advantage.  As a result, if we apply education, we may progress via our tourist growth and eventually achieve development for the people. Nananom picked this motif for that purpose.

Mr. Mensah encouraged residents of Oguaa to use the celebrations to advertise their companies and increase revenue.

First and foremost, we must employ education. That is our distinct edge. So, if we employ education, we can advance our tourism growth and people's development."

Mr. Perry Mensah went on to say that there have been some additions to the Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebration's normal program line-up. He explained that they have a week of programming planned before the festival and another week planned after the Afahye for a new program. He offered a rundown of the two-week schedule for this year's festivities.
